Dr.
Dave Masur
In 18 seasons as the head coach of the St. John’s
men’s soccer team, Dr. Dave Masur has led the team to an unprecedented level of
success in collegiate soccer. Under Masur’s leadership, St. John’s won the 1996
National Championship and has made four appearances in the College Cup (1996,
2001, 2003, 2008). From 1996-2005, St. John’s was the only program in the
country to reach 10-consecutive NCAA Rounds of 16. A two-time National Coach of
the Year (1996, 2001), Masur has also been named the Northeast Region Coach of
the Year six times and the BIG EAST Coach of the Year three times. The Red
Storm has qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament in each of Masur’s 18 seasons,
and has also won seven BIG EAST Tournament Championships and six BIG EAST
regular season crowns. Masur has a 324-102-59 career record at St. John’s and
has coached 87 All-BIG EAST selections, 14 All-Americans, 34 regional
All-Americans and 12 MLS Super Draft selections.
Marc Reeves
After helping St. John’s win the 1998 BIG EAST
Tournament Championship as a player, Marc Reeves joined the Red Storm staff as
an assistant coach the following season. The 2008 Northeast Region Assistant
Coach of the year, Reeves was named an Aflac Assistant Coach of the Year in
2002. Reeves became the team’s top assistant in 2001 and was promoted to
associate head coach in 2006. In 10 seasons on the staff, Reeves has helped St.
John’s reach three College Cups, including an appearance in the 2001 National
Finals. The team has also advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 in eight of his 10
seasons and has won two BIG EAST Tournament Championships (2001, 2006).
Jeff Matteo
An All-American, two-time College Cup participant
and a four-time All-BIG EAST selection as a St. John’s player, Jeff Matteo
joined the staff in 2007. A second round selection in the 2002 MLS Super Draft,
Matteo spent time playing in the MLS, USL and also overseas before returning to
the Red Storm as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. In two seasons
on the staff, Matteo has seen the team reach the College Cup and win a BIG EAST
regular season crown.
Fernando Barboto
Coach Barboto has lead Iona University for the
past 6 years and he took over a winning less program and made it into a NCAA
tournament contender each year. Fernando is a former player of coach Masur and
was also the director of coaching for fc Westchester and was the head coach at
St Francis University in PA and was an assistant coach at Lafayette college a
former collegiate all American coach Barboto brings a wealth of knowledge to
the camps
Following a two-year stint as a graduate
assistant with the men’s soccer team, Maciek Sliwinski is now the director of
coaching for the Brooklyn Italians As a graduate assistant at St. John’s,
Sliwinski helped organize scouting reports, worked with video and assisted with
head coach Dr. Dave Masur’s soccer camps. A two-year captain of the Iona soccer
team, Sliwinski was a four-time MAAC All-Academic honoree and has volunteered
as a youth soccer coach in New Jersey since 2002. Coach Maciek has worked our
camps for the past 5 years in many different capacities most recently on site
coordinator, group director to lead coach.
Jack Weber
Former division I player and championship high school coach from Montclair high
school teams compete for state championships and his team have won many county
championships. Jack is a great teacher of the game and will challenge the
campers to excel by creating environment where they have to make decisions
under tactical and technical pressure. Coach Weber is an astute leader whose
teams and organizations excel. He is well renowned for his efforts in winning
many titles with the fed challenge economics team from Montclair high school.
Roger Rubinetti
Roger is a former player of coach Masur at Montclair state and has been
coaching high school soccer for many years at Livingston high school. Roger is
creative and energetic and develops the camper sto meet their potential. Roger
charismatic style and flair as a coach have always separated him for his peers.
Roger has been working with coach Masur for over 20 years
Vinnie McGowan
A teacher and coach at David Brealy high school and a former player under coach
Masur. Vinnie has a dynamic coaching style and thorough approach with the kids
and other coaches as been a standard which all the St Johns soccer camp staff
aspire to attain. Each summer his groups will have a overwhelming experience
through his knowledge and delicate implementation.
Karyn Lundgren and Theresa
Bulman
Two former St Johns women soccer player who has been now teaching for over 8
years as an elementary school teacher. They have great compassion, focus and
generates a successful program with our younger campers with her ability to
provide games and drills that enhance the campers overall skill and dynamic
movement with the ball.
